I am not in too much pain - that must be due to the slow release pain meds that I'm taking. What I am finding unbearable is the drain. Although it does not hurt it is extremely cumbersome and uncomfortable. It limits my movement. I have called it "my ball and chain!" I cannot lie comfortable in the bed for fear that I will pull it out of the wound site.
The reason they put the drain is is to draw out the excess fluid that your body produces to fill in what was taken out. Once it is draining less than 30 ml in 24 hours it can come out.
The doctor came to see me in the morning to discharge me. She has arranged for Hospital at Home to send a nurse to see me each day and check my drain until it is ready to come out.
I am not able to sleep longer than 3 hours at night because of the discomfort of the drain. Then I'll be up for a few hours and then I'll crash at about 05:00 for 2 hours. But I am finding it hard to get comfortable and am often moving from one room to the next trying to get comfortable and to get some sleep.

The nurse has looped the drain and attached it to my side as I kept feeling like I would pull it out of the wound.
Here is the ball and chain in all its glory! I have to carry this wherever I go and when I sleep I have to place it on the floor next to me.
